Stan The Sturgeon - Role Playing Scenarios

The Problem With Stan: Role Playing Scenarios

New Stan the Sturgeon Role-Playing Scenarios!

We are excited to announce, that with the generous support of SaskPower, we have produced 3 more Stan the Sturgeon Role Playing Scenarios! Now your students can plunge in and learn to take a role in water system management.

Challenge your students to examine the complexities of water system issues from the various viewpoints of the stakeholders. Can they find common ground and work together to resolve problems? Transform information into experience by engaging students in four role-playing scenarios that represent real-life issues in the Prairie Provinces.

Through these scenarios, students will identify the environmental, economic and societal consequences of human practises
that affect water system functions and fish habitat. They will also be able to analyze group processes involved in problem solving and decision making.

These environmental role-playing exercises support the following curriculum outcomes:

  • Alberta Learning Grade 8 Science Unit: Freshwater and Saltwater Systems
  • Saskatchewan Education Grade 8 Science Unit: Water Systems on Earth
  • Manitoba Education Grade 8 Science Cluster 4: Water Systems
