Volunteer Information and Forms

 

Volunteer Positions Needed

Volunteers are needed for the May 29 - May 31, 2010 Envirothon Event at Bethany College, Hepburn, Saskatchewan. There are many different options for volunteering for the Envirothon. Often, volunteers can volunteer in multiple capacities (such as both for the Oral competition and the Trail Tests). Shared accommodation for the nights of the event are available.

Types of Volunteers Needed

 

Registration

  • Team Registration - Sunday May 29th between 5:00 p.m.and 7:00 p.m. - greet the students as they arrive, ensure that they sign-in and receive their boxes of materials, keys to their rooms, and any directions/instructions that may be required.
  • Volunteer Registration - Sunday May 29th between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and Monday May 30th between 7:00 am - 9:00 pm.  Assist in greeting volunteers, hand out job descriptions, room assignments, t-shirts and other giveaways.

 

Trail Test

Monday May 30th between 9:00 - 3:00pm. 

  • Trail Captain - Monday morning/afternoon - time the trail test and blow an air horn every 15 minutes to tell teams to move to next stop. Be prepared to spend day outdoors (in any weather conditions). Bring your own lawn chair!
  • Trail Monitors - Monday morning/afternoon - travel the trail test and sit in for trail stop attendants or buddies who need to use facilities. Troubleshoot problems, run and obtain assistance if necessary. Trail Monitors should be prepared to spend the day outdoors (in any weather conditions).
  • Trail Stop Attendants - Monday morning/afternoon - Sit at the trail stop and ensure the appropriate materials and samples remain at the site for the next team. Point students to flagged samples. Do not provide technical assistance during the test. Be prepared to spend the day outdoors (in any weather conditions). Bring your own lawn chair!

 

Oral Competition

Training will occur during the evening on Monday May 30th.  Preliminary competition and Final competition will occur on Tuesday.

  • Judges (Preliminary Orals) - Tuesday morning - listen to and score10 minute presentations made by teams of students. Training will be provided. Each panel of judges will be assigned to a specific judging area.
  • Judges (Final Orals) - Tuesday afternoon - listen to and score10 minute presentations made by teams of students. Training will be provided. Each panel of judges will be assigned to a specific judging area.
  • Facilitators - Tuesday morning and afternoon - welcome the judges and teams to the room, time the presentations, give the teams their bag of materials.
  • Cabin Monitors - Monday evening & Tuesday - ensure the correct team is present and is onetime. Keep the noise down in the area, prevent admittance to the room once it has begun.
