Throughout the River Festival there will be public education and awareness of the beauty and importance of the river.
Day One (July 13) will feature the arrival of the Voyageurs’ Rendezvous 2017 complete with voyageur canoe sprint races and a costumed paddling pageant. On the recreational paddling front there will be instruction in canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding combined with short river tours. Day Two and Three (July 14 &15) will include an interpretive dance performance on the banks of the river, screening of river related films, a Songs of the River performance concert, exhibitions of painting and sculpting reflective of the waterway and walking experiences complete with storytelling and heritage interpretive sessions. Day Three will also kick-off one- and two-day canoe tours to experience historically important sites of the Northwest Resistance along the Trails of 1885.
